I am Jonathan Crouch, and I am infatuated with technology and making it work! I first started my “tech life” at a very young age running ms-dos games off of 5.25″ “Floppy” disks on old computers that my dad would bring home from work. Games like Commander Keen, Paragon, Wolfenstein, and many more. Getting the opportunity to learn how to run the games and navigate the command line was setting me up for my future career and I didn’t even know it.
Fast Forward 15 years…
After working in various trades, I ended up working for a contracting company doing work for major internet service providers. One day I received a job that changed my life forever. The work order had put me at the head end NOC (Network Operations Center) of the provider we were contracting for. My love of technology was sparked the moment I walked into that building. I followed the massive bulk of wires, in the track above my head, down the hall and around the corner to the main floor. I walked into an ice-cold room that was filled with rows upon rows of servers and networking equipment. I was stunned, in shock, and so excited I could barely focus on my work. It wasn’t the sudden 30-degree drop in temperature…I just knew that this is where I wanted to be.
Shortly after, I enrolled myself into night school. While raising a small family I worked during the day and went to school for four hours, right after dinner, three times a week. It was in school that my knowledge of networking and passion for open-source software began. After four long years, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and Cyber Security. While working for a few companies I decided to step out on my own, and I started Cyber Byte. Now I am able to provide my expertise and services to any and all.

We not only love to talk about open-source software and solutions, we actually use them EVERY DAY! Cyber Byte runs primarily on open source systems. Our production servers and lab environments run on a mixture of Linux Ubuntu, FreeBSD, and Fedora (RHEL).
